Romney Vs. Reality (NRA Edition)

Mitt’s highlights from the 2012 GOP Primary (via the White House)

Mitt Romney Vs Reality II (via The White House)

Another back’n’forth that shows Romney talking some misleading shit and really doing his best to define our president as he wishes he was. There will be a ton of these in the months ahead, as there should be.

Mitt Romney Vs Reality (via The White House)

Yes, Romney really does think voters are idiots.

Whoa, Rick “Santorum” Santorum brings the noise (and by “noise” I mean absolute scare tactic bullshit that makes no sense in actual reality) with his new attack ad… It’s a nice looking spot for sure, and probably effective with all the freaks who cry themselves to sleep with vivid images of government tyranny embedded in every thought they’ve had since the ‘08 election.

“Will the Real Mitt Romney please stand up?” - Awesome video, and the guy who did it is an Aussie.

Whoa! Mississippi! Take a look at a trailer from the Alexandra Pelosi (yes, the former speakers’ daughter) documentary, soon to air on HBO. It’s… something.

Steve Benen, now of The Maddow Blog, lays out how Romney is going around butchering facts to knock our president on energy policy. At some point the media- I would hope- would start calling this powermad freak out over his lies and distortions. I’m posting all of Mr. Benen’s words below, but if you haven’t read him you should do yourself a favor and check out his posts daily:

Romney fibs about gas prices at a stop in Missouri.

Republicanshaven’thad much luck lately trying to talk about energy policy, but that didn’t stop Mitt Romney fromweighing inon the subject yesterday. His comments, delivered at a playground in Missouri, were so wildly off-base, it’s probably best if I just annotate them.

“Yesterday, he said the reason we have high gasoline prices is, and then he was seeking — What could it be? What could it be? — I have some suggestions for him,” Romney said. “Maybe it’s related to the fact that you stopped drilling in the, in the Gulf [1]. Maybe it’s related to the fact, Mr. President, that you are not drilling in. Maybe it’s related to the fact that you said we couldn’t get a pipeline in from Canada known as Keystone [2]. Those things affect gasoline prices, long term.”

He continued: “But instead he came up with this: He said it’s because Republican presidential candidates are talking in a very muscular way about Iran and their nuclear program. [3]”

This is clearly an issue important to voters, so it’s worth taking a moment to consider whether Romney’s claims are true.

[1] Oil production has gone up under Obama, and is higher now than at any point in Bush’s second term. It hasn’t affected prices at the pump.

[2] Keystone wouldn’t lower gas prices.

[3] Obama didn’t blame Republicans for gas prices. The president said one of the drivers of fluctuating costs is “speculation about possible war in the Middle East,” and those comments are accurate.

In other words, Romney made three specific claims about gas prices and energy policy, and all three were wrong.

This is a complicated issue that voters obviously care about, and it’s easy for the public to get confused. Dishonesty from politicians trying to exploit anxiety doesn’t help the discourse.

The three points I bolded above need to be made clear to the voters ASAP.

“The Road We’ve Traveled” Official Trailer - Obama for America 2012

Yesterday, I was sincere when I said that my heart goes out to A. Breitbart’s friends and family. Later last night, I ran into this:

At the moment, news of the death of right-wing media provocateur Andrew Breitbart has many people offering ritual condolences or holding their tongues. Still, the announcement has been followed by a steady stream of “good riddance to bad rubbish” tweets from liberals like Matt Yglesias. This in turn has outraged Breitbart’s conservative fans.

But here’s the thing: Breitbart did not afford the customary courtesy due the dead when Sen. Ted Kennedy passed away:

Andrew Breitbart, a Washington Times columnist who oversees Breitbart.com and BigHollywood.com, tapped into the anti-Kennedy vein in the hours after the senator’s death was announced, posting a series of Twitter messages in which he called Kennedy a “villain,” a “duplicitous bastard” and a “prick.”

Moral rules cannot long hold if there are no consequences for transgressing them.

That was Jesse Singal subbing in at Washington Monthly’s Political Animal there digging up the Politico link from post-Ted Kennedy death. At first I thought, “What a fucking scumbag, and here I was trying to be understanding and compassionate at this piece of shit’s death… and and and…” I didn’t fire off any “good riddance” posts, and I didn’t even have to “hold my tongue” yesterday until I read that Politico article. Still, I have nothing shitty to say about Breitbart. I’m liberal/progressive so I’m sure anyone who’s tuned in could guess what I think of Breitbart’s opinions. At the end of the day, I won’t stoop to take a dump on the dead. It’s kinda what separates”my types” from “them”.

WTF?!?! Someone has it bad for… Mitt? Really? Mitt wouldn’t know “sexy” if it jumped on his back and penetrated him. I don’t use these 3 letters in sequence very often, but this is one of those times: LOL.

I wasn’t a fan of this guy by any means… but when someone passes away so unexpectedly at this young of an age I can’t help but feel a little down regardless of who it is. In all seriousness, my heart goes out to his friends, family, and loved ones. ‘Odd to type this, but Mr. Breitbart will be missed.

One huge difference between Mitt and ObamaVia Jesse Singel (subbing for Kilgore at The Washington Monthly)

… have you ever seen Romney look anywhere close to this natural? Does he ever come across as someone who is simply shooting the breeze about a subject he enjoys?

No, and it matters in an election, because of course there’s something to all the old dumb Bush cowboy stuff, in the sense that voters need to feel a sense of connection to a candidate. Beyond the perception that Romney is a flip-flopper and/or lacks orthodox conservative bona fides, his startling inability to elicit this sense in the average viewer or voter is why he is such a hamstrung candidate.

Santorum rubs old Romney quotes and op-ed clips in the Mittster’s face via a spanking new negative ad… Ouch.

AFSCME brings the mash up with Mitt’s infamous “trees are just the right height” and Anchorman.
